British Journal of Criminology: Australian Gun Ban Had No Impact On Crime.
The Article
Quote: -------------- Homicide patterns (firearm and non-firearm) were not influenced by the NFA, the conclusion being that the gun buyback and restrictive legislative changes had no influence on firearm homicide in Australia," --------------
Quote: -------------- The director of the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics, Dr Don Weatherburn, said he was not surprised by the study. He said it showed "politicians would be well advised to claim success of their policies after they were evaluated, not before". --------------
Yeah, I know, nobody here is surprised.
Just spreading the ammo out to the brethren, ya know?

Halbrook Annihilates Cornell...
Some time ago, I'd heard that Stephen Halbrook was working on a response to Saul Cornell's disengenious "civic right" model of the 2nd amendment.
While patroling THR, I came across at least one element of that refutation.
Behold:
St. George Tucker’s Second Amendment: Deconstructing ‘The True Palladium of Liberty’ (pdf)
Despite my reservations concerning Prof. Cornell's work, given his Joyce Foundation funding, I'd always extended Prof. Cornell a certain grudging benefit of the doubt concerning the presumption of good will and academic integrity, but after reading Holbrook, I can no longer do that.
When it comes to history and the foundation of law, it seems that the Forces of Organized Gun Bigotry simply cannot find a leg to stand on without resorting to flagrant distortion.
{sniff. sniff}
Smells like pants flambe` to me.

Citgo Delenda Est.

It is said that boycot is a tactic of questionable effectiveness.
Nonetheless, I'll spell out in simple terms why I'm not buying any gas from Citgo, and why you shouldn't either.
Citgo is entirely owned by the government of Venezuela.
The government of Venezuela is entirely controlled by the socialist thug Hugo Chavez.
Hugo Chavez uses the proceeds of Venezuelan oil to prop up his socialist regime to fend off socialism's innevitable collapse.
Hugo Chavez has openly declared himself to be our enemy, both in words ("Down with the U.S. empire. We have to bury imperialism this century.") and in deeds, by allying himself with the likes of Cuba and Iran, which chants "Death to America" every Friday night like clockwork.
I'm not giving my dollars to those whose express goals is the destruction of my way of life.
Neither should you.

Scrubbing Guns...
Is a chore no more.
I know there are different schools, but I'm a gun cleaning guy.
I shoot my guns, I clean them, within at least 48 hours. I field strip them, wipe them down with a solvent, give them a good tooth brushing, them mop out the gunk with a clean patch.
Then I clean the bore, first using the brush for a dozen strokes, and then alternating wet and dry patches, until the dry patch comes out clean. With my previous gun cleaning products, this could be a sizeable pile of patches, a dozen or more, a chore that went on and on and on.
Finally, I'd oil them, reassemble, function check them, and give them a final wipedown to get rid of the excess oil. This took about 15-20 minutes per gun, and range day mean I could be in the garage for an hour or two.
I've used a bunch of different products, and when I found that they didn't make any appreciable difference, I'd always go back to Hoppes, with the voice of my very first gun instructor reverberating in my head. "Hoppes. Don't bother with anything else, none of it's any better."
Well, that might've been the case back in the day, but Rem Oil spray is fundamentally different. Unable to find any Hoppes @ Wally World, I simply grabbed what they had, which happened to be the Remington products, not expecting it to be any different. The next time I settled down to scrub guns, the bore was clean with three patches. Unable to believe it, I spent two more patches, but they came out clean. Thinking it a fluke, I simply tucked the note away for myself, to see what happened next time.
Tonight, it was the same story. The guns were clean in three patches.
I shit you not.
I mourn all those patches that died in vain.
I'm a Rem Oil man from now on.

Sweet, Smoking Buddha!
Dave Kopel puts it all together on school shootings, in one compact, undeniable package, arguably one of his best.
Dave calls his tour de force The Resistance Teaching common-sense school protection., but I call it, "The End Of The Nation of Pussies."
{an hour later}
I reflect that some people will actively reject a diagnosis of national pussydom as being a central cause of many of our various national symptoms, but I also reflect that people often reject a diagnosis not on its merits, but because they fear that the antidote is worse. In the minds of many people, the opposite of "pussy" is the sort of slope headed, testosterone poisoned tattooed tough guy bully, incapable of nuance or reason that most of us learned to detest in junior high school. Sadly missing from our national conciousness is a positive template or role model of a whole, complete and balanced human being capable of the full range of human expression that includes mental agility, a well calibrated moral compass, and demonstrable courage, who knows when to run, fight or negotiate, and is equally facile in all three. Sadly, people who exhibit such traits are dubbed heroes, and placed separate and apart from common men, behind a velvet rope, thus relieving the masses from the burden of having such expectations placed upon them.
We can no longer afford to be a nation of the craven, allowing our public policies to be driven by the cowardly and the pusillanimous who seek the illusion of zero risk and absolute safety. We are called to be a nation of heroes, each and every one of us, to practice in our everyday lives the traits we find noble and admirable, until we awaken one day to find that we accept and embrace our own magnificence.
In so doing, we serve ourselves and our nation well.

Hadda Share....
OK, so, I'm going mental @ work, absolutely busy, 2 phone headsets, one in each ear at all times, dealing with vendors, people @ HQ, putting out last minute fires, when I pick up the line in my left ear, and shriek like a little girl.
I can't tell the poor guy on the line in my right ear why I just shrieked like a girl, but I can tell you:
Voice of Recording: -----------------------
"Hi, my name is Bill Clinton, and I'm calling on behalf of my fine colleague..."
AAAAGH! AAAAAGH! AAAAAAGH!
